Archiving the Future
A case study on long-form digital storage in the Void.
To archive is to make a bet about what tomorrow will want to remember. Most of what we store, we store badly — in formats that rot, on services that close, in schemas no one will read.
The half-life of a format
A document is only as durable as the software that can open it. We design for the long now: plain text where we can, open formats where we must, and a clear record of how every piece fits the whole.
Storage as narrative
An archive is not a warehouse; it is a story told in retrieval. The order in which things surface, the paths between them, the silences — these are editorial choices. We treat them as such.
